As the holiday season approached, I had the pleasure of participating in the inaugural Holiday Market at the SOMA Wellness Center in Ashland, Oregon, on December 14th, just before Christmas.

This event was a heartwarming celebration of community, wellness, and local artisans, marking the beginning of a new tradition in our vibrant town.

Upon entering the SOMA Wellness Center, I was immediately enveloped by a sense of tranquility and warmth. The center, known for its holistic approach to health, offers a range of services including infrared and traditional saunas, a cold plunge, and a Himalayan salt lounge. These facilities are designed to promote deep detoxification, relaxation, and overall well-being. The ambiance was further enhanced by the gentle hum of conversations, the soothing aroma of essential oils, and the soft glow of festive lights adorning the space.

One of the highlights of the event was meeting Kathryn, the passionate founder of Moon Time Tea. Kathryn's dedication to crafting artisanal teas that honor the natural rhythms of the body is truly inspiring. Each blend is thoughtfully created to support different phases of life, promoting balance and wellness. At her booth, visitors were invited to sample a variety of teas, each offering a unique symphony of flavors and health benefits. Kathryn's knowledge and enthusiasm were evident as she shared the stories and intentions behind each blend, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of tea-making.

Another memorable encounter was with Olivia, a skilled esthetician at Hive & Honey. Olivia was attending as a consumer and did not have a booth, but her magnetic personality had me scrounging for my phone so I could make an appointment for a full body experience.

The market also provided an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, including Anja, the vibrant owner of Fikka Cafe. Known for its cozy atmosphere and delectable offerings, Fikka Cafe has become a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. Anja's commitment to quality and community is reflected in every aspect of the cafe, from the thoughtfully sourced ingredients to the welcoming environment she has cultivated. Seeing Anja thriving and sharing her culinary creations at the market was a testament to her hard work and passion.

The event radiated a strong sense of community, like a warm hug from a friendly bear—if bears were known for their artisanal soap-making skills! Artisans displayed a wide variety of handcrafted items, ranging from detailed jewelry that sparkled brighter than a disco ball at a 70s dance party to natural skincare products that promised to make you glow like you just won the lottery. Each piece was like a little storyteller, narrating tales of creativity and commitment, and possibly a few late-night coffee-fueled adventures.

The market offered more than just a shopping opportunity; it was a tribute to the talent and entrepreneurial spirit that characterize Ashland. You could practically hear the cheers of support as local entrepreneurs showcased their wares, with shoppers wandering around like kids in a candy store, except the candy was made of pure craftsmanship and excitement of discovering a one-of-a-kind treasure. Who knew shopping could be such a delightful workout for the heart and soul?

The success of the inaugural Holiday Market at SOMA Wellness Center speaks volumes about the power of community collaboration. It provided a platform for local businesses and artisans to connect with the public, fostering relationships that extend beyond commercial transactions. Events like these are essential in nurturing the local economy and strengthening the bonds that make our town unique.

Reflecting on the experience, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant community. The Holiday Market was more than an event; it was a reminder of the importance of supporting local enterprises, embracing wellness, and coming together to celebrate our shared values. I look forward to future gatherings at SOMA Wellness Center and witnessing the continued growth and success of the incredible individuals I had the pleasure of meeting.

The first-ever Holiday Market at SOMA Wellness Center was a hit, like finding the last piece of pie at a family dinner! It was all about community spirit and holiday cheer, with local artisans showing off their skills like Kathryn from Moon Time Tea, Olivia from Hive & Honey, and Anja from Fikka Cafe, who all deserve a round of applause (and maybe a standing ovation). Their passion for their crafts and our community is as impressive as a reindeer doing the cha-cha. As we jingle all the way forward, let’s keep cheering each other on, creating a community where wellness, creativity, and connection are as plentiful as cookies at a holiday party.
